Good morning Sebastien.

The following is an excerpt from my adventure/fantasy novel, so far untitled. This is the first couple paragraphs of the first chapter.

I woke up this morning to the sound of sizzling bacon
and the smell of freshly ground coffee, with my eyes still
half closed I sat up, stretched and called out “good
morning” I almost made it to the kitchen before I realized
that the breakfast feast was happening in the apartment
below mine and that Sarah wasn’t here cooking for me
because she left me. She said I lacked ambition, she is
engaged to a banker now. I shook my head in hopes of shaking
her from my memory and that is when I glanced at the clock.
SHIT! I’m late for work.
I hurriedly threw on yesterdays outfit because I forgot to
do laundry again and grabbed yesterdays half eaten bagel
because I haven’t bought groceries in a week.
I stumbled out the door struggling to get my shoes on.
Holding the bagel with my teeth, I ran to the elevator. It
was out of order so I took the stairs, nearly tripping
halfway down. When I reach the lobby I bumped into the
building manager, literally, I knocked his coffee out of his
hand. He gritted his teeth and I thought he was about to
murder me right there.
“Your rent is three days late” he thundered, “I want it in
two days or you are out of here.”
I apologized and said I would have it, as I was walking out
the door into the street I heard him grumble “I can’t wait
to get rid of him.” I looked down and kept walking away,
not letting on that I heard what he had said.
